Film says hi-yo to Silver City

From the Silver City News Sun-News:

Film says hi-yo to Silver City

SILVER CITY - Silver City residents are about to get a shot at their 15 minutes of fame.

Elizabeth Gabel, an extras casting director, has put out the call for extras for a major, big-budget Hollywood film being shot in the Silver City area in October. On her website,, the production is called "Silver Bullet," but Daniel Taras, owner of Crew New Mexico, an Albuquerque-based company that works with casting directors and helps connect New Mexico businesses with the film industry, said when films send out a casting call they usually use coded words.

"It provides some cover of privacy for the film," he said, "but it's usually not so abstract that you can't figure it out."

Other sources have reported that the film "Silver Bullet," is actually "The Lone Ranger," starring Johnny Depp and other high-profile actors, but Gabel wasn't saying.

"I cannot confirm that," she said Thursday. "I signed a nondisclosure agreement that states I can't reveal the name of the project, the studio, or the main actors."

But what Gabel could say was that the film is a western and is going to be a lot of fun to be involved with. She will be looking for 300 to 500 extras for the Silver City portion of the shoot, which is slated to begin in October and will run for about six weeks.

"This is a show that people are going to want to come to audition for," she said...
